How to heal your sunburn

Getting a sunburn can be a real pain, especially if it’s a bad one. You had a nice weekend at the cottage and you wake up the next day with a “lobster” face. Nice. Now what? We’ve all been there! The only thing is that you want to make sure your skin heals properly. Obviously with time the skin heals itself, but it’s good to give it a little boost and help it. Here are my top 3 tips to accelerate the healing process of a sunburn:

1. Apply a cold compress: Step one is to keep the burnt area nice and cool with ice cubes or very cold compresses. Doing this will keep the skin temperature down and will be more comfortable for you, especially if it burns. Taking a cold shower can help soothe the pain as well!

2.Keep it moisturized: Yep, you guessed it. Keeping your skin well-balanced and nicely hydrated will definitely help it heal faster. The best for really bad  sunburns is natural aloe vera. This plant has amazing healing capacities, even for scars. You can either buy a real leaf at your local health food store like Whole Foods or buy the pharmacy version. Make sure there’s no alcohol or any chemicals. Keep it as natural as possible. Apply it over the burnt area, and repeat as many times as you need.

3.Use Vitamin-E: The best way to use Vitamin-E is to buy the capsules and break them so you can use the oil in its pure form. Studies have shown that the early use of this on a sunbrun will lessen the damage to your skin.

Getting a sunburn can happen to anyone, just keep in mind to re-apply your sunscreen every 2 hours. Obviously the best way to prevent a sunburn is to stay inside, but hey, we all need to live a little 😉
